These are 'lasts' used by cobblers to make shoes. High end shoes, cycling shoes, and ski boots are built around lasts to a specific size insuring uniformity and proper fit. These shots were taken as I toured the Sidi factory in Treviso, Italy this past June. There are custom lasts for some guys you might have heard of. I took some photos of those too.
Simoni, Bettini, Kloden, DiLuca, etc. Anyone who is anyone has a custom last with a piece of masking tape and thier name handwritten on it. I looked around for one with "Schnaars" but couldn't find it. Maybe it was in the basement. I will post more about how Sidi has been making shoes by hand in Italy for 50 yrs.
